What this is

The Group identifies, assesses and develops selected commercial opportunities across its markets and sectors, and puts each one to the counterparties it actually suits.

An opportunity here means a specific, developed commercial position: a defined requirement with an identified route to meet it, or an identified supply with a route to a market that wants it. It is developed to the point where a counterparty can evaluate it before it is put to anyone.

It sits within Transaction & Project Development, supported by Commercial Intelligence & Advisory, and is presented through a controlled pathway rather than an open listing.

It runs in both commercial modes: on opportunities originated and developed within the Group’s own Principal Commercial Activities, and on those developed under Client Commercial Mandates. The assessment standard is the same either way.

How an opportunity is developed

The same operating model applies to opportunities developed for the Group’s own commercial activity and those developed under an agreed client mandate. The represented interests, authority and permitted actions are established for each engagement.

  1. Origination

A commercial position is identified in a market or sector the Group works in.

  2. Assessment

Relevance, capability and commercial credibility are assessed before further development. Unresolved questions are recorded before a next step is agreed.

  3. Development

The commercial position is worked up: the route, the terms that would be workable, and what a counterparty would need to evaluate it.

  4. Placement

It is put to the counterparties it suits, on the release basis appropriate to it.

How an opportunity is released

Every opportunity carries one of three release states. The state is set when the opportunity is developed, not negotiated afterwards.

Public
Published only after verification and explicit publication approval, with no confidential live position disclosed without authority.
Qualified access
Released to counterparties who meet the stated criteria for that opportunity.
Private mandate
Held privately and presented directly. Never listed.

Who this is for

  • Principals with capacity to place

Producers, manufacturers and suppliers with capability that is not currently reaching the markets that want it.

  • Buyers and project owners

Organisations with a defined requirement that their existing channels are not meeting.

  • Owners of assets and projects

Holders of industrial or asset-backed positions that need a commercial route before they can move.

Discuss an opportunity.

Set out the position — what you hold or what you need, the market, and the constraints. If it is relevant, the Group will say so.
